Highest point reached
on The Hague, 3 November 1999 – The Hague, 3 November 1999 – On Thursday, 4 November, the highest point will be reached on the Andante/Adagio and Sonata apartment buildings in the De Resident project in The Hague. This project is being developed by MAB B.V. and Bouwfonds Financiering Vastgoed. Andante/Adagio and Sonata contain a total of 68 apartments located on Hexagon, a hexagonal square between Muzenstraat and the attractive Muzenplein. Responsible for the design is Italian architect Adolfo Natalini. By elaborating on De Resident’s interesting use of geometric elements (e.g. the number of sides on the Andante/Adagio towers starts at four at ground level, changes to six at a higher elevation and then increases to eight) and by specifying a conspicuously red brick for the facing, Natalini succeeds with these two towers (Andante/Adagio) and this apartment building (Sonata) in adding to the existing allure of this residential area. The 68 apartments were quickly sold, mostly to 1 or 2-person households consisting of people between the ages of 30 and 50. These homes will be completed during the first half of 2000. De Resident is a development that will include a total of 315 residential units. Of this number, 253 are now under construction, 106 of these being rented units in the Olympus, Parnassus and Odeon buildings. While Olympus, located on Turfmarkt, will be completed by the end of this year, Parnassus and Odeon will be ready for acceptance during the first quarter of 2000. De Resident, a multifunctional project, covers an area bounded by Fluwelen Burgwal, Herengracht and Turfmarkt. Actually a city within a city, it serves as a transition between the low-rise buildings typical of the old inner city, and the large-scaled offices in the vicinity of The Hague’s Central Station. By this time, the Castalia and Helicon buildings are already serving as accommodations for the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports. Construction of the Zurich Tower and MCMX Office is also finished. By mid-2002, De Resident will consist of 115,000 m2 of office space, 315 residential units, 4500 m2 of shops, and parking facilities. MAB, an independent integrated property company operating in the Netherlands, Germany, France, England and Belgium, is engaged in the entrepreneurial development, management and purchase of property. Ever since its founding in 1970, MAB has specialised in the development of major spatial planning projects in predominantly complex inner-city situations. At this time, MAB is working on such projects in the Netherlands as the Groenmarkt in The Hague, Alexandrium I in Rotterdam, and two city centre projects – one in Amstelveen and the other in Almere. Bouwfonds Financiering Vastgoed B.V., a subsidiary of Bouwfonds Hoevelaken, is financing De Resident project. This company is active in three sectors of the property market: development, financing and management. The construction of Andante/Adagio and Sonata is being managed by Bouwcombinatie BAM-TBI Den Haag v.o.f. Site management is being carried out by Arcadis Bouw/Infra in The Hague. November 3, 1999 |
